The town centre of Slough has seen massive regeneration in the last ten years, headed up by the 'Heart of Slough' project, which aims to create an internationally recognised centre of excellence for the information and communications industries there.

The combination of its proximity to both Heathrow airport and the capital itself and its long-held reputation as a successful home for big business makes the town the obvious choice for this kind of project. The redevelopment also aims to create more extensive retail sectors within Slough, an all-new cultural area with a particular focus on the creative arts and attractive new pedestrian spaces dominated by iconic landmarks and cutting edge public art.

World-renowned companies such as Masterfoods - the iconic Mars Bar was originally developed nearly a quarter of a century ago in Slough - hi-tech giants Amazon and Nintendo, paint manufacturers Dulux and the tool-maker Black and Decker all have major offices in the town, alongside many household names in information technology. The motor trade is also well represented, with names like Mercedes and Ferrari running UK operations within the town's industrial quarter.

There are a large number of attractive green spaces in Slough for visitors and residents alike to escape the rat-race, as well as a professional-standard ice rink - home to the local Premier League ice hockey team - that for a period hosted a young Torville and Dean as they trained for future olympic glory.
